THE MAIN SQUEEZE:
And That’s Why We Drink: This is probably my go-to and favourite podcast right now! Hosted by paranormal Em Schultz (team milkshake) and crime Christine (?)(team wine) who take turns telling one paranormal story and one crime story after the two talk about why they’re drinking that week. They are hilarious and genuine and make the dark stories they cover not as…dark. For those who truly want the spooky dark experience and just the stories—maybe skip this one. The two digress quite a bit (but because I’m so invested in their lives and commentary I don’t mind at all) and take a a good while before they jump into the stories. It’s more rewarding to listen to their podcast chronologically because then the personal tidbits all make sense, otherwise start whenever and skip everything else if you’re confused/uninterested. But they also have a sweet dog named Gio and a new kitten named Juniper!
Your Dreams My Nightmares: The is an illustration podcast hosted by illustrator Sam Weber with an impressive list of illustrator friends of his who all talk about their lives, the work place (freelancing), and more! As an illustrator myself it’s super interesting to know where all these people started. There hasn’t been any new uploads in a while, but you can listen to a couple of these throughout the week.
Getting Curious with Jonathon Van Ness: I found this when I needed more content after Queer Eye on Netflix season 2 released and I binged it all in a day. I love Jonathan’s personality and the premise of literally “getting curious” about things “regular” people don’t understand. The episodes follow a topic he’s “curious” about and having a conversation with a professional in the field to explain it while we all learn together. As well as interviews with his fellow fab five!
Rookie: I’m a fan of rookie magazine and have followed Tavi Gevinson on-and-off after I first came across her on a page of Teen Vogue back in my adolescence. In this podcast Tavi interviews people she “admires” to talk about “CREATIVITY, FEMINISM, POP CULTURE, LOVE, BODIES, POETRY, CANDY, AND MORE.”
Welcome to Nightvale: This is like a really weird audio book. Or more so, like listening to a daily newscast for a weird town and it’s weird happenings. Actually, that’s exactly what it is. The newscaster is named Cecil Baldwin, who takes you through the events and happenings in a weird town called Nightvale. I’ve followed this on and off for years and it is still going (now with a book series too) with a long list of episodes to binge.
S-Town: You can probably listen to this one where all audio can be found but it’s truly rewarding to go to the actual site that I’ve linked and just have it play on your laptop. But my all means take this podcast to go! If you follow Serial or This American Life, Brian Reed hosts it. It’s about a “man named John who despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it.” There’s murder, a family, there’s mystery and the story telling is perfect. Completed series.
